A Cold Nearby Cloud inside the Local Bubble
The high-latitude Galactic H I cloud toward the extragalactic radiosource 3C 225 is characterized by very narrow 21 cm emission andabsorption indicative of a very low H I spin temperature of about 20 K.Through high-resolution optical spectroscopy, we report the detection ofstrong, very narrow Na I absorption corresponding to this cloud toward anumber of nearby stars. Assuming that the turbulent H I and Na I motionsare similar, we derive a cloud temperature of20+6-8 K (in complete agreement with the 21 cmresults) and a line-of-sight turbulent velocity of 0.37+/-0.08 kms-1 from a comparison of the H I and Na I absorption linewidths. We also place a firm upper limit of 45 pc on the distance of thecloud, which situates it well inside the Local Bubble in this directionand makes it the nearest known cold diffuse cloud discovered to date.

First Results from the CHARA Array. I. An Interferometric and Spectroscopic Study of the Fast Rotator α Leonis (Regulus)
We report on K-band interferometric observations of the bright, rapidlyrotating star Regulus (type B7 V) made with the CHARA Array on MountWilson, California. Through a combination of interferometric andspectroscopic measurements, we have determined for Regulus theequatorial and polar diameters and temperatures, the rotational velocityand period, the inclination and position angle of the spin axis, and thegravity darkening coefficient. These first results from the CHARA Arrayprovide the first interferometric measurement of gravity darkening in arapidly rotating star and represent the first detection of gravitydarkening in a star that is not a member of an eclipsing binary system.

CHARM2: An updated Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements
We present an update of the Catalog of High Angular ResolutionMeasurements (CHARM, Richichi & Percheron \cite{CHARM}, A&A,386, 492), which includes results available until July 2004. CHARM2 is acompilation of direct measurements by high angular resolution methods,as well as indirect estimates of stellar diameters. Its main goal is toprovide a reference list of sources which can be used for calibrationand verification observations with long-baseline optical and near-IRinterferometers. Single and binary stars are included, as are complexobjects from circumstellar shells to extragalactic sources. The presentupdate provides an increase of almost a factor of two over the previousedition. Additionally, it includes several corrections and improvements,as well as a cross-check with the valuable public release observationsof the ESO Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). A total of 8231entries for 3238 unique sources are now present in CHARM2. J - K DENIS photometry of a VLTI-selected sample of bright southern stars
We present a photometric survey of bright southern stars carried outusing the DENIS instrument equipped with attenuating filters. Theobservations were carried out not using the survey mode of DENIS, butwith individual target pointings. This project was stimulated by theneed to obtain near-infrared photometry of stars to be used in earlycommissioning observations of the ESO Very Large TelescopeInterferometer, and in particular to establish a network of brightcalibrator sources.We stress that near-infrared photometry is peculiarly lacking for manybright stars. These stars are saturated in 2MASS as well as in regularDENIS observations. The only other observations available for brightinfrared stars are those of the Two Micron Sky Survey dating from overthirty years ago. These were restricted to declinations above≈-30°, and thus cover only about half of the sky accessible fromthe VLTI site.We note that the final 2MASS data release includes photometry of brightstars, obtained by means of point-spread function fitting. However, thismethod only achieves about 30% accuracy, which is not sufficient formost applications.In this work, we present photometry for over 600 stars, each with atleast one and up to eight measurements, in the J and K filters. CHARM: A Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements
The Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements (CHARM) includesmost of the measurements obtained by the techniques of lunaroccultations and long-baseline interferometry at visual and infraredwavelengths, which have appeared in the literature or have otherwisebeen made public until mid-2001. A total of 2432 measurements of 1625sources are included, along with extensive auxiliary information. Inparticular, visual and infrared photometry is included for almost allthe sources. This has been partly extracted from currently availablecatalogs, and partly obtained specifically for CHARM. The main aim is toprovide a compilation of sources which could be used as calibrators orfor science verification purposes by the new generation of largeground-based facilities such as the ESO Very Large Interferometer andthe Keck Interferometer. Diffraction-limited Near-IR Imaging at Keck Reveals Asymmetric, Time-variable Nebula around Carbon Star CIT 6
We present multiepoch, diffraction-limited images of the nebula aroundthe carbon star CIT 6 at 2.2 and 3.1 μm from aperture masking on theKeck I Telescope. The near-IR nebula is resolved into two maincomponents, an elongated, bright feature showing time-variable asymmetryand a fainter component about 60 mas away with a cooler colortemperature. These images were precisely registered (~35 mas) withrespect to recent visible images from the Hubble Space Telescope(Trammell et al.), which showed a bipolar structure in scattered light.The dominant near-IR feature is associated with the northern lobe ofthis scattering nebula, and the multiwavelength data set can beunderstood in terms of a bipolar dust shell around CIT 6. Variability ofthe near-IR morphology is qualitatively consistent with previouslyobserved changes in red polarization, caused by varying illuminationgeometry due to nonuniform dust production. The blue emission morphologyand polarization properties cannot be explained by the above modelalone, but require the presence of a wide binary companion in thevicinity of the southern polar lobe. The physical mechanisms responsiblefor the breaking of spherical symmetry around extreme carbon stars, suchas CIT 6 and IRC +10216, remain uncertain.

Photoelectric Observations of Lunar Occultations at Engelhardt Astronomical Observatory
Results of the lunar occultations observed from 1984 to 1997 at theEngelhardt Astronomical Observatory are reported. The times of lunaroccultation for 63 stars, with a precision of a few milliseconds, anddiameters for 12 stars have been determined.

UBV photometry of stars whose positions are accurately known.
Photometric indices V, B-V, and U-B were measured for about 560 stars ofthe AGK3R and NPZT catalogs between BD declinations 11 deg and 23 deg,using the 40-cm Cassegrain telescope of the Kvistaberg Observatory fromApril 1986 to May 1987. The observation procedure and the reductiontechnique were the same as in the earlier papers of this series by Oja(1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987). The mean errors were calculated from theinternal consistency of the data. The accuracy was found to be the sameas for the earlier parts of the survey.

Hyades and Sirius supercluster members brighter than magnitude (V) 7.1. II - Right ascension six to twelve hours
The present star sample is contained in the Bright Star Catalogue andits Supplement, augmented with a further supplement of 788 stars foundduring various observing programs over the past 40 years. Accurate,four-color and H-beta, or (RI), photometry is available for most of thesupercluster members. The criteria for membership are the comparisons ofthe proper motion, radial velocity, and luminosity obtained from thesupercluster parameters with the observed motions and the luminosityderived from the photometric parameters. New proper motions, based onall available catalogs, have been derived for the additional 788 starsdiscussed here, as well as all supercluster members.
