CHARM2: An updated Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements
We present an update of the Catalog of High Angular ResolutionMeasurements (CHARM, Richichi & Percheron \cite{CHARM}, A&A,386, 492), which includes results available until July 2004. CHARM2 is acompilation of direct measurements by high angular resolution methods,as well as indirect estimates of stellar diameters. Its main goal is toprovide a reference list of sources which can be used for calibrationand verification observations with long-baseline optical and near-IRinterferometers. Single and binary stars are included, as are complexobjects from circumstellar shells to extragalactic sources. The presentupdate provides an increase of almost a factor of two over the previousedition. Additionally, it includes several corrections and improvements,as well as a cross-check with the valuable public release observationsof the ESO Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). A total of 8231entries for 3238 unique sources are now present in CHARM2. Thisrepresents an increase of a factor of 3.4 and 2.0, respectively, overthe contents of the previous version of CHARM.The catalog is only available in electronic form at the CDS viaanonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or via http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/431/773

J - K DENIS photometry of a VLTI-selected sample of bright southern stars
We present a photometric survey of bright southern stars carried outusing the DENIS instrument equipped with attenuating filters. Theobservations were carried out not using the survey mode of DENIS, butwith individual target pointings. This project was stimulated by theneed to obtain near-infrared photometry of stars to be used in earlycommissioning observations of the ESO Very Large TelescopeInterferometer, and in particular to establish a network of brightcalibrator sources. We stress that near-infrared photometry is peculiarly lacking for manybright stars. These stars are saturated in 2MASS as well as in regularDENIS observations. The only other observations available for brightinfrared stars are those of the Two Micron Sky Survey dating from overthirty years ago. These were restricted to declinations above≈-30°, and thus cover only about half of the sky accessible fromthe VLTI site.We note that the final 2MASS data release includes photometry of brightstars, obtained by means of point-spread function fitting. However, thismethod only achieves about 30% accuracy, which is not sufficient formost applications. In this work, we present photometry for over 600 stars, each with atleast one and up to eight measurements, in the J and K filters. Typicalaccuracy is at the level of 0\fm05 and 0\fm04 in the J and K_s bands, respectively.Based on observations collected at the European Southern Observatory, LaSilla.Tables 1 and 2 are only available in electronic form at the CDS viaanonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/413/1037

Reprocessing the Hipparcos Intermediate Astrometric Data of spectroscopic binaries. II. Systems with a giant component
By reanalyzing the Hipparcos Intermediate Astrometric Data of a largesample of spectroscopic binaries containing a giant, we obtain a sampleof 29 systems fulfilling a carefully derived set of constraints andhence for which we can derive an accurate orbital solution. Of these, one is a double-lined spectroscopic binary and six were not listed inthe DMSA/O section of the catalogue. Using our solutions, we derive themasses of the components in these systems and statistically analyzethem. We also briefly discuss each system individually.Based on observations from the Hipparcos astrometric satellite operatedby the European Space Agency (ESA 1997) and on data collected with theSimbad database.

CHARM: A Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements
The Catalog of High Angular Resolution Measurements (CHARM) includesmost of the measurements obtained by the techniques of lunaroccultations and long-baseline interferometry at visual and infraredwavelengths, which have appeared in the literature or have otherwisebeen made public until mid-2001. A total of 2432 measurements of 1625sources are included, along with extensive auxiliary information. Inparticular, visual and infrared photometry is included for almost allthe sources. This has been partly extracted from currently availablecatalogs, and partly obtained specifically for CHARM. The main aim is toprovide a compilation of sources which could be used as calibrators orfor science verification purposes by the new generation of largeground-based facilities such as the ESO Very Large Interferometer andthe Keck Interferometer. The Catalog is available in electronic form atthe CDS via anonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/386/492, and from theauthors on CD-Rom.

New binary stars discovered by lunar occultations. IV
We report on a total of 20 sources observed in the near infrared in thecourse of routine lunar occultation programs at the TIRGO and Calar Altoobservatories. The results consist either in discoveries of newbinaries, or in re-observations of known or suspected binaries whereonly incomplete information was previously available. For the firsttime, a companion has been detected around the following 6 stars:DO 2779, SAO 162001, SAO93083, IRC -20444, SAO162521, and GCVS 980. Additionally,SAO 93746 is discovered to be a triple system, withprojected separations at the 0farcs01 level. For the following 7 stars, our observations confirm previous reports of binarity and providecomplementary information in the infrared: SAO96746-A, SAO 161202, SAO94060, AG +16 403, SAO98270, SAO 93950 and SAO94554. Finally, for the following 4 stars, a companion hadbeen previously observed or suspected, but we could not detect it forvarious reasons: SAO 96810, SAO93961, SAO 93975 and SAO93981. The projected separations in our positive results rangefrom 0farcs01 to 0farcs57 , and the brightness ratios up to Delta K=4.4mag. In addition, two visual doubles, namely SAO184176 and SAO 94002, have also beenobserved and their projected angular separations and infrared brightnessratios are reported here. This paper is the fourth in a series, bringingto 58 the total number of binary sources studied by our group by meansof lunar occultations. Based on observations collected at TIRGO(Gornergrat, Switzerland), and at Calar Alto (Spain). TIRGO is operatedby CNR--CAISMI Arcetri, Italy. Calar Alto is operated by theGerman--Spanish Astronomical Center.

New binary stars discovered by lunar occultations. III.
We report on a total of 20 occultation events of 16 binary sources, observed in the near infrared in the course of routine lunar occultationprograms at the TIRGO and Calar Alto observatories. The results consistin either discoveries of new binaries, or in re-observations of known orsuspected binaries where only incomplete information was available. Thispaper is the third in a series of similar reports (see Richichi et al.1994A&A...286..829R and 1996A&A...309..163R, hereafter Papers Iand II). For the following 9 stars, we detected a companion for thefirst time: SAO 160179, DO 10593, DO 11286, SAO 96515, SAO 96547, SAO164323, SAO 164360, SAO 164371, SAO 128391. Of these, SAO 96515 was asuspected lunar occultation binary, while SAO 160179 and SAO 96547 (aswell as SAO 146402 below) belong also to wider binary pairs. For thefollowing 4 stars, we confirm previous reports of binarity: SAO 161153,SAO 95419, SAO 146402, SAO 96810; for these stars, our IR measurementscomplement existing visual information: Finally, in the case of thethree stars SAO 93777, SAO 162050 and SAO 95456, a companion had alsobeen previously observed or suspected, but we could not detect it. Ournegative detection in these cases provides a constraint on thecharacteristics of the companion. The projected separations in ourpositive results cover a range of two orders of magnitude, from =~0.006"to =~0.6".

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue.
We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

Evolved GK stars near the sun. I - The old disk population
A sample of nearly two thousand GK giants with intermediate band, (R,I),DDO and Geneva photometry has been assembled. Astrometric data is alsoavailable for most of the stars. The some 800 members of the old diskpopulation in the sample yield accurate luminosities (from two sources),reddening values and chemical abundances from calibrations of thephotometric parameters. Less than one percent of the objects arepeculiar in the sense that the flux distribution is abnormal. Thepeculiarity is signaled by strong CH (and Ba II) and weak CH. The CH+stars are all spectroscopic binaries, probably with white dwarfcompanions, whereas the CH- stars are not. A broad absorption band, centered near 3500 A, is found in the CH+ stars whereas the CH- objectshave a broad emission feature in the same region. The intensity of theseabsorptions and emissions are independent of the intensity of abnormalspectral features. Ten percent of the old disk sample have a heavyelement abundance from one and a half to three times the solar value. The distribution of the heavy element abundances is nearly a normal onewith a peak near solar abundance and ranges three times to one sixthsolar. The distribution of the (U, V) velocities is independent of theheavy element abundance and does not appear to be random. Ten percent ofthe old disk stars show a CN anomaly, equally divided between CN strongand CN weak. Several stars of individual astrometric or astrophysicalimportance are isolated.

Photoelectric observations of lunar occultations. XI
Occultation observations of 466 events are presented. These includediameter measures of Aldebaran under very bad conditions and a gooddiameter measure of 82 Vir. The list includes 91 reappearances andobservations of 34 double or multiple stars, both new and previouslyknown. The inconsistencies of the observations of Kui 88 are discussed.Further observations are most desirable.

Lunar occultation summary. III
Observations of 242 photoelectric lunar occultation events studied atErwin W. Fick Observatory are reported. Approximately one-fourth ofthese are reappearances. From each observation are estimated the minimummagnitude differences between the observed object and possibleundetected companions. Occultation observations are given of 23 starsbrighter than 6th mag, including Alpha Vir, Beta-1 Sco, Mu Gem, Xi-2Sgr, Zeta Tau, Lambda Gem, and Beta Cap.
