Calibration of the Infrared Telescope Facility National Science Foundation Camera Jupiter Galileo Data Set
The NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, setaside some time on about 500 nights from 1995 to 2002, when the NSFCAMfacility infrared camera was mounted and Jupiter was visible, for astandardized set of observations of Jupiter in support of the Galileomission. The program included observations of Jupiter, nearby referencestars, and dome flats in five filters: narrowband filters centered at1.58, 2.28, and 3.53 μm, and broader L' and M' bands that probe theatmosphere from the stratosphere to below the main cloud layer. Thereference stars were not cross-calibrated against standards. Weperformed follow-up observations to calibrate these stars and Jupiter in2003 and 2004. We present a summary of the calibration of the Galileosupport monitoring program data set. We present calibrated magnitudes ofthe six most frequently observed stars, calibrated reflectivities, andbrightness temperatures of Jupiter from 1995 to 2004, and a simplemethod of normalizing the Jovian brightness to the 2004 results. Ourstudy indicates that the NSFCAM's zero-point magnitudes were not stablefrom 1995 to early 1997, and that the best Jovian calibration possiblewith this data set is limited to about +/-10%. The raw images andcalibration data have been deposited in the Planetary Data System.

A 2 Micron H2 Spectral Survey of Proto-Planetary Nebulae
We measured 2.1-2.3 μm spectra for a mostly complete sample of knownproto-planetary nebulae (PPNe) at declinations north of -30°. Thisspectral range includes the H2 emission lines 1-0 S(1), 1-0S(0), 2-1 S(1), 2-1 S(2), and 3-2 S(3). We detected H2emission from 16 of the 51 objects in our survey. Twelve of these arenew detections, doubling the number of PPNe with detected H2emission. We find that H2 emission commences at a spectralclass of mid-G in PPNe with bipolar morphologies and optically thickequatorial regions; in fact, all bipolar F-G PPNe with an opticallythick equatorial region have collisionally excited H2emission. Radiative excitation becomes important in PPNe when thecentral star reaches an early B spectral type, just beforephotoionization of the nebula and the commencement of the planetarynebula (PN) phase. Almost all of the PPNe with B central stars showH2 emission, with either a purely radiative or a mixedcollisional plus radiative spectrum. Since H2 emission israre in nonbipolar PNe, the destruction of the H2 in thenonbipolars must be roughly coincident with the photoionization of thenebula. As with H2-emitting PNe, the bipolarH2-emitting PPNe are found at low Galactic latitudes.Optically thin H2-emitting nebulae are not similarlyrestricted to low latitudes. Brγ emission is detected in 15 of thesources, including all those of B spectral type.

Rotational velocities of A-type stars in the northern hemisphere. II. Measurement of v sin i
This work is the second part of the set of measurements of v sin i forA-type stars, begun by Royer et al. (\cite{Ror_02a}). Spectra of 249 B8to F2-type stars brighter than V=7 have been collected at Observatoirede Haute-Provence (OHP). Fourier transforms of several line profiles inthe range 4200-4600 Å are used to derive v sin i from thefrequency of the first zero. Statistical analysis of the sampleindicates that measurement error mainly depends on v sin i and thisrelative error of the rotational velocity is found to be about 5% onaverage. The systematic shift with respect to standard values fromSlettebak et al. (\cite{Slk_75}), previously found in the first paper,is here confirmed. Comparisons with data from the literature agree withour findings: v sin i values from Slettebak et al. are underestimatedand the relation between both scales follows a linear law ensuremath vsin inew = 1.03 v sin iold+7.7. Finally, thesedata are combined with those from the previous paper (Royer et al.\cite{Ror_02a}), together with the catalogue of Abt & Morrell(\cite{AbtMol95}). The resulting sample includes some 2150 stars withhomogenized rotational velocities. Based on observations made atObservatoire de Haute Provence (CNRS), France. A catalogue of [Fe/H] determinations: 1996 edition
A fifth Edition of the Catalogue of [Fe/H] determinations is presentedherewith. It contains 5946 determinations for 3247 stars, including 751stars in 84 associations, clusters or galaxies. The literature iscomplete up to December 1995. The 700 bibliographical referencescorrespond to [Fe/H] determinations obtained from high resolutionspectroscopic observations and detailed analyses, most of them carriedout with the help of model-atmospheres. The Catalogue is made up ofthree formatted files: File 1: field stars, File 2: stars in galacticassociations and clusters, and stars in SMC, LMC, M33, File 3: numberedlist of bibliographical references The three files are only available inelectronic form at the Centre de Donnees Stellaires in Strasbourg, viaanonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5), or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/Abstract.html

The nature of the F STR lambda 4077 stars. 3: Spectroscopy of the barium dwarfs and other CP stars
The abundances of C, O, Al, Ca, iron-peak and s-process elements havebeen derived from high-resolution spectra for a sample of starsclassified as F str lambda 4077 by Bidelman. Among the 20 starsmentioned by Bidelman, we have discovered 8 barium dwarfs (or CHsubgiants, according to Bond's terminology), while a 9th star, HD182274, was already known as a CH subgiant. In addition, we haveanalyzed three barium stars taken from the list of Lu et al. (1983)which are probably dwarfs rather than giants, and three CH subgiants. The other 11 F str lambda 4077 stars resemble either the delta Delphinistars, since their iron abundance is enhanced while Ca is normal, or areprobably spectrum composites. A few Am, Ap, lambda Bootis and normalstars have been analyzed for comparison. In particular, we have includedthree lambda Boo candidates, selected from their photometric properties, and their iron deficiency is confirmed. The spectroscopic, photometricand statistical evidences concerning the Ba dwarfs, support the ideathat these stars may be the main sequence counterparts, and possibly theprogenitors of the Ba giants. The C/O ratio varies in these stars fromnormal values to a maximum of 1.5, but mostly within 0.6 and 1.2. Someof these objects may therefore be considered, in this sense, as carbonstars. On the other hand, the abundances of carbon and s-processelements relative to iron are inversely correlated with metallicity, andmay even exceed significantly those of typical, solar-metallicity carbonstars. Metal-deficient C stars must therefore have (C/Fe) greater thanor approximately equal to 1 and (s/Fe) greater than or approximatelyequal to 1.5 as soon as (Fe/H) less than or approximately equal to -1.The neutron exposure is shown to increase when the metallicitydecreases, which is compatible with the C-13 (alpha, n) O-16 neutronsource, but not with the Ne-22 (alpha, n) Mg-25 one. The evolutionarystate (within the main sequence) of the Ba dwarfs, is rediscussed inrelation with their photometric and spectroscopic surface gravity, butit remains unclear.

Asymptotic giant branch stars near the sun
Available red and near-infrared photometry and apparent motions of M, S,and C asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in the Bright Star Catalogueare tabulated and discussed. It is shown that the red and near infraredindices normally used for late-type stars are interchangeable except forcarbon stars. The M-type giants are variable with visual amplitudegreater than 0.05 mag. The reddening-free parameter m2 from Genevaphotometry is essentially a temperature parameter for M giants, whilethe reddening-free parameter d is a sensitive detector of blue stellarcompanions. The space density of AGB stars near the sun decreases by afactor of 35 in a temperature range 3800 to 3400 K. Two of the S starsnear the sun were found to have nearly equal space motions and may becomembers of the Arcturus group.

The S201 far-ultraviolet imaging survey. III - A field in Sagittarius
Far-ultraviolet imagery of a 20 deg diameter field in Sagittarius, centered near (1950) R.A. 18 h 34 m, decl. -30 deg 25 arcmin, wasobtained by the S201 far-ultraviolet camera during the Apollo 16mission. In a 10-minute exposure covering the 1250-1600 A wavelengthrange, 1034 star images are detectable, with a limiting ultravioletmagnitude of about 10. Most of these objects are identified withearly-type stars listed in the Smithsonian Astrophysical ObservatoryStar Catalog, the Catalog of Stellar Identifications, or both, but 203objects remain unidentified or are identified with late-type stars. Thephotometric measurements appear to be in reasonable agreement with thoseof the International Ultraviolet Explorer for stars in common, and withexpectations for A0 stars. A detailed photometric study was made of theMessier 8 region, and it is concluded that dust-scattered starlightcontributes about half of the total radiation observed from the centralregion of M8.
